How BackyardScout handles the data needed to run the site.

This page summarizes how the site currently handles newsletter information, account access, billing workflows, comments, and analytics.

Information you provide

If you join the newsletter, contact us, comment on an article, or create an account, we collect the information you enter into those forms so we can operate the relevant feature.

Account and billing services

Authentication is handled through Clerk. Premium billing is handled through Stripe. BackyardScout does not store raw payment card numbers on its own servers.

Site analytics

We use site analytics and performance tooling to understand page views, newsletter signups, and product usage so we can improve the experience over time.

How we use the data

We use submitted information to run the site, respond to support requests, manage memberships, deliver newsletter emails, and understand which parts of the publication are useful to readers.

Data sharing

We do not sell personal information as part of BackyardScout's normal operation. Service providers that help run the site may process data as needed to provide hosting, authentication, billing, and analytics.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from emails, request account help, and contact us about deleting or correcting information associated with your account or newsletter record.
